Terrapin Station Sober Living is a fresh take and expansion on what we have come to learn over the years through previous and current Halfway Houses, Sober Living Homes and all other well intended and well recognized forms of recovery programs for addicts and the mentally ill. Our Housing is intended for those who are just getting out of Prison, Rehab or the Military as well as the homeless or people with physical disabilities with co-occurring serious drug addiction. We are a Dual Diagnosis Recovery House that places an importance on understanding and tailoring services to the individual. Any House in our name is run as Democratically as humanly possible with the House Manager being near equal parts president and housemate. Unlike most programs similar to ours, we allow the use of Cannabis given it is for a legitimate medical purpose and ideally prescribed by a Doctor. Use of CBD and CBD derived products is permitted as well, as long as they are not negatively impacting your life in any serious way. .
Unlike other Recovery/ Halfway Houses we permit the use of Opioid Maintenance Treatments such as Buprenorphine, Suboxone, Methadone, Sublocade and Naltrexone (Vivitrol) depending on the addicts particular situation in terms of their past, triggers and goals throughout recovery. The addicts' duration of use along with their chosen Route of Administration (Intravenous, Oral....etc) also comes into play as to whether or not maintenance medication is ethical on an individual basis for opioid addicts under our roof. Being a comprehensive Sober Living Home we help point you in the right direction for medical care regarding addiction treatment and any other diagnosis' you may have. In the same sense we will also do our best to help you find housing after your stay with us along with long term employment opportunities that will fit in with your new life's wants and needs as long as you are willing to work with us. We also help to find government support for addicts/ the mentally ill when necessary, this includes but is not limited to;
gaining Disability and other Welfare Benefits that may apply to your situation, healthcare benefits (Medicare, Medicaid or at the very least, Insurance Via the Affordable Healthcare Act) and of course SNAP (aka food stamps). Once individuals are grounded and begin to work, there is a strong focus on understanding personal finance and wealth while moving forward in recovery based on the will of the participant.
We are conveniently located near 2 College Campuses in The Champaign/ Urbana Area in Central Illinois that can be reached by bus route or bike for further education/ Commute to work. We also have a house car that is used by
the house manager to get groceries and to take housemates to doctors appointments, AA, NA or CR meetings and naturally to the hospital or a Methadone Clinic when necessary.
If you have not graduated from Highschool our staff and your housemates will be there to help you study so you can earn your GED upon your wish. The same goes for if you or your loved one has literacy issues or for those who Struggle with Arithmetic. If you are willing to learn, we are willing to teach.
While we do not require that you go to AA we strongly encourage some form of Recovery Group and or Fraternal Order outside of the recovery house.
While some people get perturbed by meetings they will serve to help
keep you busy, build fellowship, accountability partners and ultimately further allow you to adapt to your new life as a person free from Recreational Drug use and Alcohol. Like any sober living/ transitional housing we have one Main Rule and that is;
No Drinking and No Drugging (with the exception of your Ethically, medically Prescribed Medications). One should expect random drug tests roughly once a month, beyond that Terrapin Station will be your home while you stay with us,
and you will never be asked to leave given you pay your weekly share of the rent, follow the stated rules, and most importantly, continue to grow in your recovery.

Whether it be through harm reduction or proper housing for those who suffer from addiction. Our goal is to utilize the most effective methods for the treatment of addiction that we currently know of that are legally possible in the US. We do not actively seek donations from the public nor do we engage in fundraising activities from private citizens. We are supported solely by grants awarded by the county based on the value that we bring to the tax payer, sales of goods or services and the weekly dues paid by members of the house.
